Why You've Dropped Rank in Google

Some of you may have noticed that your websites are not ranking as high as they used to in Google. You may have been hit by Panda. Panda is Google's latest algorithm update that started sending out updates in February of 2011. Panda's main focus is to find poor-quality or "spammy" websites and keep them from being ranked well in Google's Search Engine. Panda looks for such things as duplicate content, poor link building, spam sites, ad placement, and over all low-quality content. The most recent release for a Panda update was on November 5th, 2012, making a total of 21 updates so far.

If you've been practicing some shady ways to rank your site higher in Google, such as using link farms, black hat tools, borrowing content or writing content just good enough to make it through the web crawlers, it's likely that you've been affected by Panda.

There are a number of ways to both help your site keep Panda from dropping your rank, and to come back up in rank if Panda has already affected you.

  • Google likes a trustworthy, authoritative site
  • Get rid of useless indexed pages, make sure there are not 404 error pages showing on your site
  • Write original high-quality content
  • Use good link building practices (don't use a link farm, or try and pay for links)
  • Check your site for an overabundance of ads
  • Make sure your website is user-friendly with easy navigation
  • Check your spelling and grammar
  • Fixing technical errors

Try these few tips and see if your Google ranking can improve. Google wants you to provide a high-quality site filled with good, original content, that is user-friendly, and optimizes good link building practices. Google will always be sending out new updates for a new algorithm that they have concocted. The best any of us can do is try and stay ahead of the game with a high-quality site and good SEO practices.
