Bio:
Glenda Owen is an Area Manager in Workforce Services with the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. She has oversight of all USDOL programs under Wagner Peyser, Veteran Employment & Training, and Unemployment Insurance grants. Her responsibilities cover twelve counties in southwestern Oklahoma with One Stop Career Centers located in Lawton, Duncan, Altus and Chickasha.

She has over 12 years experience as a claims adjudicator and manager determining the eligibility of payment of Unemployment Insurance benefits. She became the Office Manager in Lawton in 1992 and became an Area Manager over offices in 2000.

She serves on numerous boards and associations:

  • She is a charter member and served two years as secretary for the Great Plains SHRM Chapter in Lawton.
  • She served two terms as president of the Oklahoma Chapter of International Association of Workforce Professionals. She is currently serving as the 2005-6 Educational Chair for the Oklahoma Chapter.
  • She currently serves as secretary and a board member of the South Central Oklahoma Workforce Investment Board for South Central Oklahoma that serves Grady, Caddo, McClain, Stephens, Jefferson, Comanche, Cotton, and Tillman counties.
  • She served as the Great Plains HR Chapter's Workforce Readiness Advocate and currently is serving as the 2006 Workforce Readiness Chair for Oklahoma Human Resource Council.
  • She served on 2005 & 2006 OK State HR Conference as Evaluation Chair.
  • She served on the 2004 OK State HR Conference on the Program Committee.
  • She has served on the Lawton/Ft Sill Economic Development Committee and currently served in 2005 on the Chickasha Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee. Currently is serving in that capacity in 2006.
  • She has served as Honorary Co-Chairman for the Business Advisory Council for Congressman Tom DeLay, Majority Leader (2003)

She holds two degrees from the University of Science & Arts in Oklahoma. She is a certified PHR through HRCI. She holds her Silver Job Readiness Credential through WorkKeys.

She is a strong advocate for local and state workforce and economic development. Her word to any group is this. "Do you realize that the workforce for the next twenty years has already been born?"
