"Sarbanes-Oxley Update"

This program presents the topic of Sarbanes-Oxley and it’s impact on the workforce and the credibility of publicly-held Companies.  It will examine the role and responsibilities of HR professionals in the context of the Act and everyday practices.

Why is the subject significant to the HR Profession?

The underlying reason for the Sarbanes-Oxley Act came about as a way to ensure accurate, ethical financial reporting by publicly-held companies.  It is important for all HR professionals to understand the Act’s implications to officers, employees and shareholders.

What new information do you plan to present?  The effect the Act has had since it’s inception; projected challenges in the future as the act matures.

Bio:
Becky Payton was raised most of her life in Oklahoma.  She graduated from Stratford High School in Stratford, Oklahoma and East Central University in Ada, OK. Following graduation, she was employed by General Tire and Rubber Company as a Purchasing Agent.  She then went to work for PrePaid Legal Services, which is where she first went into the field of Human Resources.  She obtained her Professional in Human Resources Certification in 1994.  She has been an adjunct professor at East Central University in the field of Human Resources and speaks to groups on a wide variety of HR topics.

She is currently the Vice President of Human Resources for York International/Johnson Controls, Unitary Products Group, in Norman.  Johnson Controls is as 30 billion dollar Corporation which manufactures and distributes York Heating and Air Conditioning products, JCI Building Controls, Automotive Components, and Batteries.

She is married to Russell Payton, an assistant principal at Norman High School, and they are the parents of 5 children, 4 of whom have graduated from college and have started their own careers, and one who is a senior at UCO.

She is currently a member of the Society of Human Resources Managers, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Norman Chamber of Commerce and United Way of Norman.  She is also a member and former director of the Norman Chapter of Kiwanis International.
